Victorian VAD ministerial advisory panel appointed

The Victorian government this week appointed a ministerial advisory panel that will help guide the government as it drafts legislation in coming months. The group will be chaired by former Australian Medical Association president Brian Owler, a trained neurosurgeon who is seen as a strong appointment because he understands the broad-ranging views held by doctors. It will also include deputy chair Margaret O’Connor (professor of nursing at Swinburne University); Mary Draper (immediate past chief executive of Health Issues Centre, a consumer organisation); Julian Gardner (a lawyer and former Public Advocate); Roger Hunt (palliative care physician) and Tricia Malowney (an advocate for people with disabilities).
