Canada passes assisted dying law

The Canadian government has approved its assisted dying legislation, after the Senate backed off a bid to expand access beyond those who suffer from a terminal illness.

Under the approved law the patient seeking assistance to die must be near death and “in an ‘advanced state of irreversible decline,’ with enduring and intolerable suffering.”
