What we can learn from Canada
As an intensive care specialist in the emergency department of one of Canada’s leading teaching hospitals, Dr Scott Anderson has seen a lot of people die. If Australian lawmakers can learn anything from Canada’s experience with euthanasia, it is that difficult issues do not finish with passing the law. Even though it is the law of the land, medically assisting a patient’s death remains the domain of the brave. Most Canadian doctors and nurses simply don’t want to go there.
